Sigma Defense is seeking a Network Engineer III to support the MQ-25 and Unmanned Carrier Aviation (UCA) Mission Control System (UMCS) programs in San Diego, CA. The role involves testing communications between the Surrogate MQ-25 Air Vehicle and Ground Control Station, including both Narrowband and Wideband satellite and line-of-site links for C4I Operational Network Evaluation test events. Additional responsibilities include writing Test Plans, Test Procedures, Test Reports, and lab configuration/testing for various test events. Familiarity with the US Navy's afloat and ashore Automated Digital Network System (ADNS) architecture is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in network integration, testing, and troubleshooting, including loading configurations, troubleshooting devices, and performing Wireshark traffic analysis.
  • Design, develop, optimize, and test network systems in a multi-vendor environment (routers, switches, firewalls, and other devices).
  • Perform hardware and software testing, analysis, and selection; apply DISA STIGs and generate RMF artifacts.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation and generate network traffic using tools like Spirent traffic generators.
  • Configure and troubleshoot network devices, including Inline Network Encryptors (INEs) and Linux IP Tables.
  • Provide operational support, including performing equipment operational tests, collecting and analyzing test data, and identifying/reporting issues.
  • Write Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Test Reports for lab and operational test events.
  • Support testing of communications links, including Narrowband and Wideband satellite and line-of-site links (e.g., Starlink/Starshield, WGS, NTCDL, MUOS, UHF).

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in DoD or other Government Unclassified and Classified Systems/Networks, Cisco Routing and Switching, Network Engineering, Network Testing, and Implementation planning.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in:
    • Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing (BGP, DMVPN, IPSec, EIGRP, OSPF, VRRP, STP, VTP, ACLs, Layer 3 tunnels).
    • Operating Linux systems and configuring/troubleshooting Linux network-related tasks.
    • Network automation tools (Ansible, Python).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with network-related hardware and software.
  • Cisco CCNA/CCNP certification preferred.
  • Network Engineering experience with ADNS, CANES, and/or CaaS preferred.
  • IAT Level II certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain an active Secret security clearance or higher (sponsorship available for the right candidate).
  • Active Secret clearance required to begin work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Network Engineering or a related field.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+).
  • Candidate differentiators: CCNP, CCIE, CCNE.

Skills

  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with provisioning and operation of Wideband links (Starlink/Starshield, WGS, NTCDL, CBSP) and Narrowband links (MUOS, UHF Line of Site) is helpful but not required.

Pay

$120,000 - $130,000 annually.
