13R Field Artillery Firefinder Radar Operator
As a Field Artillery Firefinder Radar Operator, you will determine enemy locations and communicate target coordinates to your unit. "Firefinder" refers to specialized radar that detects mortars, aircraft, and other objects using radio or sound waves to pinpoint their positions. You will operate this equipment to acquire targets such as enemy mortar positions and alert defensive units.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain radio and wire communications
- Construct bunkers and similar protective areas for field artillery units
- Maintain Firefinder radar equipment through scheduled checkups

This role also develops transferable skills for civilian careers, including teamwork, discipline, leadership, and proficiency with advanced computer systems used in targeting and communications.
Training
Instead of paying for training, you will earn a paycheck while learning. Job training consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, covering fundamental Soldiering skills, followed by eight weeks of Advanced Individual Training, which includes both classroom instruction and field work.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
Requirements
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED certificate
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
- Must pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
