About the role
The Transportation Safety and Training Coordinator is responsible for oversight of the training program and safety initiatives for the Transportation Department.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Director of Transportation, Transportation Supervisor and the District in supporting District and department goals and objectives.
- Promotes a safety culture for all District vehicle operations.
- Monitors District driver safety data using safety analytics from various sources such as GPS, telematics and onboard video.
- Coaches drivers, administers skills training and develops a course of action to improve driver skillset.
- Makes recommendations for constructive corrective action when necessary.
- Supervises Driver Trainers, delegates assignment and workflow distribution.
- Trains Driver Trainers and ensures Trainers maintain and keep current all training certifications.
- Ensures Driver Trainers and other appropriate staff are kept abreast of regulation changes and industry trends.
- Conducts both classroom and behind the wheel training for bus drivers in order to obtain Commercial Driver's Licenses and School Bus Certification.
- Manages motor vehicle records checks, drug screenings, medical evaluations and CPR certifications for all staff.
- Maintains required documentation for audit in compliance with state certification, which must meet all District, state and federal requirements.
- Maintains and updates driver training manual to ensure compliance with District, state and federal requirements and industry best practices.
- Prepares and presents in-service training and regulated safety training and activities. Develops and presents training curriculum, classroom materials, PowerPoint presentations and videos.
- Oversees District white fleet training program including Multi-function School Activity Buses (MFSAB).
- Responds to vehicle accidents, collects data and completes accident reports.
- Inspects bus routes and bus stop locations to ensure safety and compliance with DPS Minimum Standards.
- Prepares required reports.
- Assists in dispatch office as needed.
- Fills in as Bus Driver as needed.
- Provides functional supervision of Transportation staff in the absence of the Supervisor or Director.
- Any other duties as designated by the Director of Transportation or Transportation Supervisor.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Five (5) years of school bus driver CDL experience or any combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform essential duties of the job.
- Experience in transportation/dispatching area.
Licensing/Certification Requirements
- Valid Arizona Driver's License.
- Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with S&P (School Bus and Passenger) endorsements, and Department of Public Safety (DPS) School Bus Driver Certification.
- Ability to obtain CPR Instructor, School Bus Driver's Classroom Instructor, Behind the Wheel Training certificate and School Bus Driver certificate within 6 months of hire.
- Valid IVP Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Department of Public Safety.
