About the role
The role involves delivering quality care through teamwork, ensuring patient safety, supporting pain management, and providing discharge planning. It also requires assessing patient needs, formulating a discharge plan, and anticipating healthcare needs.
Responsibilities
- Executes appropriate policies & procedures to assure patient safety.
- Supports pain management and provides non-pharmacological measures.
- Assists patients and families in identifying individualized comfort measures.
- Mobilizes resources in complex cases to maximize patient participation.
- Provides information and interpretation of patient conditions and offers coping mechanisms.
- Affirms patient's ability to continue meaningful life activities.
- Foresees potential age-specific healthcare needs and identifies issues for patient education.
- Plans and provides unique comfort measures using evidence-based practice.
- Collaborates with case managers and health care providers to resolve care regimen issues.
- Develops plans for adjusting staffing patterns as needed.
- Attends educational sessions to improve departmental needs.
- Participates in unit and hospital committees.
- Engages in performance improvement activities.
- Prepares for Joint Commission readiness.
- Achieves successful Patient Satisfaction scores and monitors HCAAPS measurements.
- Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
Education: Associate's degree or graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Experience: None preferred, but previous nursing experience is beneficial.
Credentials: AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider, Registered Nurse - NJ.
Training: Requires TNCC (or must obtain within 1 year of hire), NIH Stroke Scale Certification (or must obtain by end of orientation), ACLS (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date), NRP (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date), and PALS (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date).
Physical Demands: Frequent physical demands include pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, crawling, wrist position deviation, pinching, keyboard use, repetitive motion, taste/smell, sitting, climbing, standing, walking, carrying objects, talking/hearing, lifting up to 25 lbs. Occasionally, occasional physical demands include sitting, climbing stairs/ladders, continuous physical demands include standing, walking, carrying objects, talk/hearing, lifting up to 25 lbs. Sensory requirements include very accurate vision, near vision, far vision, color discrimination, accurate depth perception, and accurate hearing.
Occupational Exposure Risks: Includes bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable diseases, dust/particulate matter.
