1 Year LTS Science

Term of employment: August 25, 2026 – June 11, 2027. Salary range: $54,160 – $83,501 per the 2026-2027 salary schedule, with benefits as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

About the Role

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, you will develop students’ skills and competence in one or more fields of science—general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics—while fostering scientific methods, problem-solving, and real-world application of science.

Responsibilities

• Teach knowledge and skills in one or more science disciplines in accordance with district curriculum.
• Promote critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment conducive to individualized and small-group instruction.
• Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and learning experiences that challenge students and maximize instructional time.
• Design activities demonstrating the application of science to everyday life, including research projects, demonstrations, experiments, and laboratory work.
• Instruct students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment, chemicals, and plant and animal life.
• Assess student learning continuously and adapt instructional methods to meet individual needs, including those of students with special needs.
• Align curriculum with district and state standardized tests to maximize student achievement.
• Stay current with developments in education through professional development, seminars, workshops, or research.
• Maintain accurate records of student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and laws.
• Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents.
• Establish and enforce standards of student behavior to create a functional learning atmosphere.
• Coordinate with staff, participate in faculty meetings, and serve on committees.
• Select, requisition, and maintain inventory of instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or central office administrators.

Requirements

• Valid Pennsylvania Certification in Secondary Level Science.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching science; Master’s Degree preferred.
• Successful prior teaching experience at the appropriate grade level preferred.
• Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
• Provisional employment for 90 days as required by ACT 168 of 2014 (form must be submitted to all current and former employers where you have had direct contact with children).

Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
• Proficiency in a wide range of science subjects, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, physics, and related areas (e.g., mathematics).
• Familiarity with data information systems, data analysis, and action-plan formulation.
• Understanding of applicable federal and state education laws.
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills.
• Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Commitment to self-evaluation and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Work Environment

• Works in standard office and school building environments.
• Travels to district buildings and professional meetings as required.
