About the Position

1-2 fully funded PhD positions are available in the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park, beginning in Fall 2027. Funding is provided through teaching and/or research assistantships, including a stipend and tuition remission.

Research Topics

Research topics can be tailored to the student's background and interests and may include:

  • Coastal morphodynamics and sediment transport
  • Coastal flooding and coastal hazard assessment
  • Coastal wetland ecomorphodynamics
  • Integration of lidar, satellite, drone, and field observations with coastal process models
  • Data-driven and physics-guided approaches for coastal modeling and prediction

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a B.S. or M.S. in Geography, Geosciences, Engineering, Oceanography, Environmental Science, or a related field. Experience in numerical modeling, hydrodynamics, sediment transport, GIS/remote sensing, programming (Python, MATLAB, R), or quantitative analysis is desirable.
