1:1 Sped Paraprofessional

What You Will Do

• Work with individual and/or small groups of scholars under the supervision of a certified teacher
• Follow educational and behavioral plans and model appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff
• Function in support capacities during non-classroom times (learning labs, hallway monitoring, lunch duty, etc.)
• Implement academic curriculum during designated blocks of time
• Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the facilitator and classroom teachers
• Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for students and monitor their progress
• Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom
• Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists, social workers, occupational and physical therapists
• Assist building level SPED Department with maintaining student records
• Support students with behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills
• Assist in the preparation and display of student work
• Assist SPED teacher with preparing materials for students

Education and Experience

• A passion for working with students and families in under-served communities
• 1+ years' experience working with children in an educational setting
• Associate degree in Education or 60 semester hours of college strongly preferred; high school diploma or equivalent (required) or ETS Parapro Assessment (a passing score of 460 is required)
• Analytical ability to plan individual and group activities that stimulate growth in scholars
• Prior experience with small group instruction preferred
• Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents/guardians, and other staff
