About the Role

This position replaces the Microcomputer Decision Support Specialist and focuses on supporting students with significant learning delays, behavioral challenges, and disabilities through specialized instruction, data reporting, and coordination of services.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized instruction to students with developmental delays and/or multiple disabilities in accordance with curricular expectations and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
• Articulate specific learning challenges, skill deficiencies, or social adjustment difficulties and identify appropriate remediation strategies.
• Evaluate and monitor student progress toward specific learning goals.
• Plan student schedules considering individual needs, related services, and support staff availability.
• Coordinate efforts of instructional and support teams, including general education teachers, treatment providers, and administration.
• Develop and monitor Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) and implement appropriate intervention strategies.
• Develop IEPs and integrated goals for students.
• Facilitate the inclusion of students with disabilities in the general education environment.
• Collaborate with school nurses, LPNs, and medical providers to ensure adherence to individual health care plans.
• Communicate regularly with parents and team members.
• Participate in school-wide events and extracurricular activities outside of regular classroom hours.
• Evaluate students using the New York State Alternate Assessment (NYSAA) for students with severe disabilities.
• Provide staff development and in-service training on individual student needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support the development of students' language and socialization skills, including implementing prescribed language intervention, assistive technology, and augmentative communication.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by Building Administration, the Coordinator of Special Education, or the Assistant Superintendent for Exceptional Education and Student Services.

Requirements

• Valid NYS Certification in Special Education (K-12; additional content areas preferred).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Special Education, with comprehensive knowledge of working with students who have significant learning delays, behavioral challenges, and difficulties with multi-step directions or emotional regulation.
• Experience with a variety of disabilities, including Intellectual Disabilities, Multiple Disabilities, and Autism, and understanding of their impact on learning and behavior.
• Demonstrated experience implementing feeding plans, addressing toileting needs, and assisting with lifting and/or positioning.
• Strong working knowledge of Federal and State mandates pertaining to students with disabilities.
• Skill in conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and developing Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs).
• Well-developed written and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to interact positively with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team and coordinate various service providers.
• Effective case management and resource management skills.
• Experience in differentiated instruction and applying research-based instructional approaches for students with disabilities.
• Skill in interpreting and analyzing student data to adapt and modify curriculum to meet NYS learning standards and individual student needs.
• Ability to remain flexible and respond effectively to emergent classroom situations.
• Comprehensive understanding of the Common Core and New York State Standards in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
• Knowledge of resources and supports available to assess and monitor the daily performance of students with disabilities, cognitive deficits, health, physical, or medical needs.
• Demonstrated ability to work with students, parents, colleagues, support staff (aides, clerical, etc.), and supervisors.

Pay

$47,200 - $53,700 per WTA Contract.

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent for Exceptional Education & Student Services.
