About the role

The Orientation and Mobility Specialist will support students who are blind, have low vision, or have functional visual limitations, fostering independence and meaningful participation in educational and community settings.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individualized evaluations and interpret assessment findings
  • Collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams
  • Support the implementation of assistive technology and mobility devices
  • Provide direct and consultative services to students
  • Create data-driven evaluation reports
  • Contribute to IEPs and IFSPs
  • Communicate regularly with families, teachers, and other school personnel
  • Evaluate student progress and keep progress notes
  • Assist in the identification, placement, and program planning for students with disabilities

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility from an accredited university or college
  • Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist Certificate (COMS) from ACVREP
  • Knowledge of state and federal mandates related to instruction of students with disabilities
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and teamwork skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use student data to inform instruction
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive environment that supports diverse learners

Qualifications

Pay

The salary and fringe benefits will be consistent with the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Livonia Education Association.
