1.0 ML Teacher - 2026-2027

Schedule

8 hours per day, 194 duty days per year.

Qualifications

• Valid Minnesota teaching license in English as a Second Language (K-12).
• Meet the professional development requirements of the MN READ Act by either having completed an MDE-approved program (e.g., LETRS, CORE OL&LA, CAREIALL) or being able to complete such training independently.
• Cross-cultural experience.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Proficiency in another language.

Responsibilities

• Determine eligibility for ML services by examining Home Language Questionnaires, cumulative files, and standardized test scores; consulting with teachers and parents; and assessing English reading, listening, and speaking.
• Supervise ML educational assistant staff.
• Advocate for students and ensure equal access to educational opportunities by removing cultural barriers through communication and by providing the same quality of staff, materials, and facilities used by mainstream students.
• Provide opportunities for students to learn English by utilizing all resources, offering instructional feedback, coaching, counseling, disciplining, and instructing in the four language skill areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
• Provide students access to academic content at their ability level across the curriculum.
• Guide students' personal and social development within and outside the ML setting by establishing rules and procedures and exposing them to cultural nuances.
• Encourage students' first and second cultural development by using multicultural tests and books and discussing/writing comparisons of cultures.
• Communicate with parents through progress reports and by addressing questions and concerns.
• Maintain accurate student records.
• Comply with federal, state, and district legal requirements.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Contribute to the school system's effectiveness by identifying and addressing issues that arise, maintaining a safe and positive working environment, and coordinating workspace and time schedule with the principal and other staff.
