Job Summary

Planning and Preparation

• Demonstrates knowledge of child and adolescent development
• Establishes general outcomes for the support services appropriate to the setting and the students served
• Demonstrates knowledge of resources, both within and beyond the school and district
• Plans support services to meet the needs of individual students
• Develops a plan to evaluate the support services provided

Classroom/Therapeutic Environment

• Creates an environment of respect and rapport
• Establishes a culture for productive communication
• Defines expectations
• Contributes to the culture for positive student behavior in the school

Instruction/Delivery of Service

• Provides direct services in the classroom without pulling students from the room
• Assesses student needs
• Uses strategies in the social work setting
• Collaborates with stakeholders (staff, families, outside providers, etc.) in order to meet student needs
• Reflects on practice

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois teaching license with proper endorsement(s): school social work
• Ability to effectively collaborate
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Skilled in use of instructional technology
• Experience or interest in working with students with moderate to severe behavioral and emotional disabilities
• Trained in Nonviolent Crisis Interventions or willing to obtain this certification
