About the Role

The Head Coach reports to the Athletic Director and oversees a comprehensive high school athletic program. The role involves holding high ethical and professional standards, developing a vision for the program, and managing various aspects including fundraising, scheduling, and communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Hold high ethical and professional standards.
  • Be an appropriate role model for high school student-athletes.
  • Hold high expectations and accountability academically and behaviorally for all student-athletes and coaching staff.
  • Develop, articulate, and implement a vision for the program.
  • Work in a cooperative and harmonious manner in an educationally based, school-wide athletic program.
  • Experience leading a comprehensive high school athletic program preferred.
  • Be relationship/process oriented.
  • Provide information regarding eligibility, tryout process, cut process, and all other team-related information.
  • Communicate effectively with ALL stakeholders.
  • Recommend/assist in scheduling for your sport to the Athletic Director.
  • Be readily accessible and visible to the athletes at all levels of the program.
  • Other duties as assigned by Athletic Director.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching (one-time requirement).
  • Concussion in Sports training (yearly).
  • Heat Illness Prevention training (every 4 years).
  • District Background check.
  • Appearance and Performance Enhancing Drugs and Substances Training (every 4 years).
  • Heads up certification (Yearly) (Football only).
  • First Aid/CPR/AED (every 2 years) (paid coaches only).
  • Bend-La Pine Safe Schools Trainings (Yearly).

Qualifications

  • Ability to develop, articulate, and implement a vision for the program.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative and harmonious manner in an educationally based, school-wide athletic program.
  • Experience leading a comprehensive high school athletic program preferred.
  • Relationship/process orientation.
  • Communication skills.
  • Advocacy for the multi-sport athlete.
  • Scheduling expertise.
  • Availability during evenings, weekends, and potential travel.
