Performs moderately complex tasks and task leadership for a process team responsible for the manufacture, assembly, repair, or modification of products. Work is guided by diverse procedures, processes, and technical methods of varying complexity. Incumbents have some freedom to select best methods and procedures to complete assignments. Tasks require considerable judgment and initiative in resolving problems and making recommendations. Decisions may impact beyond the immediate work unit or team. Works under general supervision; refers situations not covered by standard processes to expert resources. May provide functional guidance to others and act as team lead, including demonstrating work methods to new employees.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as lead and problem solver, balancing personnel and facilitating product movement through the designated area.
  • Monitors conduct, performance, and contribution of cell members.
  • Performs manual assembly, operation of automated assembly equipment, hand soldering, operation of automated test equipment, and inspection and repair of products.
  • Monitors quantity and quality output; leads production or prototype team to meet group goals.
  • Compiles data and generates reports on cell performance.

Requirements

  • Must possess specific certifications as defined by site operations.
  • Knowledge of board assembly process, product process flow, product quality, soldering specifications, and SMT processing systems.
  • Ability to set up, operate, and maintain assembly and hand soldering equipment and tools.
  • Ability to recognize and address problems in the assembly process or with assembly components.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to lead a team to high-quality production within tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Lotus Notes, Excel, and documentation control systems.
  • Advanced manufacturing system knowledge.

Physical Demands

  • Performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional to frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, and temperature extremes.
  • Requires periodic light physical effort, including prolonged repetitive motions, manual dexterity, precise hand/eye coordination, and sitting or standing in confined workspaces.
  • May involve periodic heavy manual effort, including lifting objects.
  • Requires extended periods of sustained visual concentration on detailed documentation and product assemblies.
  • All demands are carried out within local health and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Four to five years of relevant experience.
  • High school diploma and additional post-secondary courses, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with a commitment to further education.
  • Educational requirements may vary by geography.
