About the role

Oversees and manages multiple advance projects in design and construction.

Responsibilities

  • Manages multiple advance projects; assists in defining staffing needs and budget requirements, including scope and costs for all capital improvements thoroughfare projects;
  • Directs the development of data required for thoroughfare improvements; and assists in the interpretation of design considerations.
  • Serves as a liaison between engineering and construction of thoroughfare projects to ensure that construction is carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with contract requirements, acceptable engineering standards and within funding allocations.
  • Reviews change orders and supplemental agreements; monitors material testing requirements for compliance with specifications; and directs and coordinates utility adjustments for project activities.
  • Oversees activities of the design staff that prepares engineer plans for public works projects.
  • Verifies and recommends payments to contractors, engineering consultants, utility companies and testing companies.
  • Obtains, develops and presents data for project hearings, neighborhood, public or city council meetings; and serves as witness for eminent domain and civil court cases.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, experience and training equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Architecture, or in a job related field of study. Three (3) years of work related experience as a Registered Professional Engineer.

Skills

  • Skilled in the use of standard software applications and computer aided design and drafting software.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public.
  • Licensed as a Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, with a good driving record.
